BSCS Science Learning is offering free professional learning for PD Facilitators with our new Invitations to Inquiry with FieldScope lesson materials, which get students working with real-world data from citizen science projects using FieldScope.
Invitations to Inquiry with FieldScope are 2-4 class period environmental science instructional materials that provide educators and students an initial experience with asking and answering questions using environmental community and citizen science (CCS) data. They are also designed to support educators and students in sensemaking using scientific data, making progress toward the NGSS practices of analyzing and interpreting data and constructing explanations.
The facilitator training is focused on helping facilitators get familiar with the Invitations and FieldScope platform, as well as prepare each facilitator to work with educators in their own settings. By participating in this opportunity, we would expect each facilitator to then reach out and work with another 10 educators by offering additional professional learning.
Details:
The facilitator training is 4 hours total, on Zoom. The next date for training is June 14, 2022 from 12-4 ET (9-1 PT), and will include 1-2 longer breaks.
The first part of the training focuses on becoming familiar with the instructional model, the FieldScope platform, and experiencing one Invitation in student hat. The second part will focus on digging deeper into one Invitation and then planning to facilitate additional sessions with 10 educators.
Each facilitator that attends the sessions and reaches at least five additional educators will be paid a $400 honorarium. There are only 15 spots available in each session so sign up today!

What are the expectations for facilitators?
We are providing this free facilitator training in order to expand our reach to additional educators. Thus, we need each facilitator to reach at least 5-10 educators with a three-hour professional learning opportunity. Facilitators will be provided with slides, facilitation notes, and support to prepare for a workshop with other educators. Facilitators will be paid an honorarium for their time to facilitate another training as well.
These dates don’t work for me. Will this be offered again?
Yes, we will offer additional facilitator sessions later in 2022. Add your name to the Sign up for a later session list and we will contact you when those dates are available.
